A WIN FOR THE AGES!

ICE COLD! A HUGE HOMER FOR POSTSEASON PETE ALONSO! ❄️🐻‍❄️

OMG. FROM 0-5 TO OMG THE NEW YORK METS EXCEED EXPECTATIONS AGAIN AND SURVIVE THE POSTSEASON ADVANCING TO THE NLDS TO FACE THE PHILLIES. OMG.

“Swing and a fly ball to right field pretty well hit Frelick back at the wall, he jumps, its gone, he did it, he did it, Pete Alonso with the most memorable home run of his career, pumps his fist as he rounds second, its a three run home run.” He has given the Mets a 3-2 lead, they all pour out of the dugout. Alonso on his way towards home plate. They’re waiting for him. He hits the plate, he is first congratulated by Nimmo, hugged by Lindor, their a dozen Mets waiting for him by the dugout. Alonso keeps this fairy tale season going with this fairy tale swing of his career. 3-2 New York! -Howie Rose Legendary Radio Call of Alonso’s historic hit.

If you thought Monday’s Game 1 victory was dramatic, tonight’s Game 3 truly took it up a notch. The 2024 New York Mets, facing a winner-take-all scenario against the Milwaukee Brewers, pulled off a stunning ninth-inning comeback to secure a 4-2 victory and advance to the NLDS. Both teams remained scoreless through six intense innings as the starting pitchers delivered clutch performances. However, in the seventh, the Brewers broke through, launching two solo home runs off the Mets’ bullpen to take a 2-0 lead, seemingly closing the door on the Mets’ postseason hopes.

But the resilient Mets, with their backs against the wall, rallied in the ninth inning, scoring four runs off Brewers’ elite closer Devin Williams. The big moment came when Pete Alonso hammered a three-run homer, flipping the game and sealing one of the most shocking comebacks of the season. What seemed like an inevitable Brewers’ victory turned into an unforgettable moment for the Mets, as they now move on to the National League Division Series. This game will surely go down in Mets history as a testament to their never-say-die attitude!

I still can’t fathom what went down roughly 4.5 hours ago. The fairy tale seemed like it was coming to an end until none other than slugger Pete Alonso pulled off a historic turnaround. It looked like his last at-bat as a New York Met, but he flipped the script in the top of the 9th inning against Devin Williams and the Brewers. We were down 2-0, but Alonso hit a clutch 3-run homer, instantly giving us the lead. A 22° launch angle and a 367-foot shot to left field that seemed like it wouldn’t leave the park—somehow, it did. I was left speechless—wow, just wow! Tug McGraw I’m believing and oh man I’m believing well! I always had full heart in this team and know the potential this team has.

After facing a near shutdown in a winner take all game the Mets rallied in the top of the 9th with MVP of the team Francisco Linder working a walk to start the rally which led to Brandon Nimmo lining a single to right and then ‘Polar Bear’ Pete Alonso came up to bat and stunned the world. It is a moment to believe that even after going 15 innings of no runs after the second innings of game two through eight innings of game three the mets came up in a moment so monumental not only for the Mets but for all time historically for postseason baseball.

Pete Alonso is the first person in MLB history to hit a go ahead home run while trailing in the 9th inning or later of a winner take all postseason game. Stuff like that doesn’t just happen. It takes a miracle for something like that to happen and oh boy what great timing. For a player who hasn’t had the best of a season besides putting up 34 home runs struggled in high pressure situations. But today all that is revoked with the performance of a lifetime Pete Alonso put up with the whole world watching.

Pete Alonso's go-ahead three-run homer

Want to succeed in the playoffs? FACE THE BREWERS. The Brewers except for last night’s have been 0-10 in the playoffs since making it to the NLCS in 2018. Every team that has eliminated the Brewers in the playoffs has made it to the World Series. Six out of the ten teams that faced the Brewers not only made it the World Series but won the whole damm thing. I don’t know if is is some voodoo curse on the Brewers but man oh man whatever it takes at this point! From 2019- 2021 the three teams that the Brewers faced in the Nationals, Braves and Dodgers they have all won the World Series after facing the Brewers. Last year’s storybook team with the 84-78 Diamondbacks heading to the World Series did it with a fire willdcard set against the Brewers.

This was our first series postseason win since 2015 and oh boy did we do it right. Clearing the bases as the underdog team to an opponent with such a dominant closer on the mound sounds pretty familiar to when Andy Ibanez had a bases clearing double in the top of the 9th inning against Josh Hader and the Astros. Another big dawg out of the playoffs earlier is incredibly exciting for what is to come.

Tigers, Royals and the Mets were teams I did not expect to be in the playoffs this year nonetheless advance in the playoffs against big time threats in the wild-card! No words describe this feeling, it feels supernatural like this couldn’t be happening. It is wild to believe there was a moment in time I had believed it was over and the season would be done but we fought through and didn’t let the Never Say Die Mets season end on a low point.

Let the boys celebrate. The City that never sleeps is facing the toughness of Philadelphia for the first time ever in the postseason and I know it will be a banger. We celebrated once at Brewers park when we made it to the playoffs in 2022 and we did it again tonight advancing to face the Phillies. The first year of David Stearns at the throne as executive and he got to get sweet vengeance on his old team. Unbelievable. Even Hollywood couldn’t craft a better ending than what we witnessed last night. This season is truly OMG and a testament to all the crap and frustration this team has suffered through over the years and that this marks the change of a new era. A testament to the past with their eyes on the future. OMG Mets. O.M.G.

About

Prime Time Baseball is an independent sports platform created by James Leather, a 22-year-old senior at Binghamton University with a lifelong passion for baseball. What started as a personal outlet has grown into a space focused on storytelling, accessibility, and modern baseball analysis.

This platform isn’t just about box scores or surface-level stats. It’s about context. Prime Time Baseball breaks down pitching mechanics, advanced metrics, roster construction, and front-office decisions in a way that both casual fans and hardcore followers can understand quickly. The goal is to make dense baseball topics feel approachable, not overwhelming.

As an avid Mets fan, that perspective naturally shows up here, but the focus goes beyond one team. Prime Time Baseball aims to create storylines across the league — highlighting player development, trends, and moments that shape the game beyond numbers alone.

There is also a strong interest in marketing and SEO behind the scenes. This page is built to grow, evolve, and eventually expand into coverage of other sports. It’s a work in progress, and that’s intentional. The platform grows as the writing grows.

Prime Time Baseball is for fans who want to learn, engage, and enjoy the game on a deeper level — without needing a statistics degree to do it.
