SUBWAY SERIES DUB

4 homeruns given up by the Yankees Ace!

What a masterful game to watch for the New York Mets who defeated the Yankees 9-7! This game further put the Mets on top in the the NL wildcard standings as the Mets are exactly 1 game between the playoffs at a current record of 38-39.

For this matchup tonight the Yankees had their long time ace of the staff Gerrit Cole to shut down the Mets lineup. Well after not playing this season until last week Cole has struggled in the short sample size of 2024. He already has an era of 9.00 after giving up 6 earned runs in 4 innings and 4 of those being home runs. He walked and gave up 4 homers all while having no strikeouts, it’s a day Gerrit Cole wants to forget.

The New York Mets feasted on Yankees ace Gerrit Cole tonight, raising doubts about his current form and future potential. Cole, who owns a pedestrian 2-3 record with a staggering 6.64 ERA in eight career appearances against the Mets, continued his struggles against their crosstown rivals. He was roughed up for 7 hits, 6 runs, and 4 walks in just 4 innings pitched. Even more concerning was his lack of strikeouts (0) and a noticeable drop in fastball velocity throughout the game, dipping from 96.9 mph in the first inning. Mets fans are ecstatic about the win and the stat that seems to favor them against their pinstriped rivals, while Yankees fans are left wondering if Cole can turn things around.

Nonetheless it’s always a great recipe and fun time watching the Mets crush on the Yankees ace and boy did they did it. Tonight’s win is in honor of Mark Vientos giving it his all and without his 2 home runs the Mets probably don’t win this game. If it wasn’t for Aaron Judges colossal grand slam that put the Yankees within two runs of tying in the 8th inning the Mets would have won an easy 9-2. Let’s also give more praise to Brandon Nimmo who has been so much better as an offensive weapon since he signed his 8 year mega deal in 2022. He launched his 4th home run in 10 games and this one was a 2 run home run to add to the Mets winning. Harrison bader also had his share to beat up on his old team with a solo homer of his own in the 2nd. This game wouldn’t have gone the way it has without David Peterson putting down the tools and commanding the strikeout with 8 strikeouts , though Peterson needs to lower the walks it’s fine when you strike out so many as you do.

There’s no denying the Yankees’ legacy. They boast more championships, retired-numbers, and iconic sluggers. They’ve historically had a bigger budget and a reputation for dramatic comebacks. But here’s the thing about Mets fans: we wear our struggles as a badge of honor.

We root for a team that’s constantly battling against the odds, the underdog in the shadow of a giant. We believe this fierce loyalty makes us “real” baseball fans, while Yankees fans are seen as bandwagoners who jump ship when the going gets tough.

Sure, the Yankees have had their fair share of glory, but times are changing. Baseball is evolving, and the Mets are finally getting the recognition they deserve. We’re building a winning culture, attracting new fans, and challenging the Yankees’ dominance. This might not be the whole truth all the time, but Mets fans understand the grit and perseverance it takes to be a fan of a team that fights for every win.

The Yankees may be used to success, but with their recent struggles, the pressure is mounting. Meanwhile, the Mets are basking in newfound popularity.  Mets are now 12-3 in their last 15 games and have won the last 5 games against the Yankees, it’s a time to be alive for the Mets. This rivalry is far from settled, but one thing’s for sure: the Mets are ready to shine just gotta believe.

About

Prime Time Baseball is an independent sports platform created by James Leather, a 22-year-old senior at Binghamton University with a lifelong passion for baseball. What started as a personal outlet has grown into a space focused on storytelling, accessibility, and modern baseball analysis.

This platform isn’t just about box scores or surface-level stats. It’s about context. Prime Time Baseball breaks down pitching mechanics, advanced metrics, roster construction, and front-office decisions in a way that both casual fans and hardcore followers can understand quickly. The goal is to make dense baseball topics feel approachable, not overwhelming.

As an avid Mets fan, that perspective naturally shows up here, but the focus goes beyond one team. Prime Time Baseball aims to create storylines across the league — highlighting player development, trends, and moments that shape the game beyond numbers alone.

There is also a strong interest in marketing and SEO behind the scenes. This page is built to grow, evolve, and eventually expand into coverage of other sports. It’s a work in progress, and that’s intentional. The platform grows as the writing grows.

Prime Time Baseball is for fans who want to learn, engage, and enjoy the game on a deeper level — without needing a statistics degree to do it.
