December 9th, Long time Yankees closer; David Robertson was signed to a 1 year $10million deal to be back in NY and play for their best team there. Nope not the Yankees, the Mets swept in and brought Robertson to Queens. Given the loss of star closer Edwin Diaz out for the season this acquisition has paid off extreme dividends. This was definitely one of the better moves made by the Mets and one of the best in the entire league, and without Robertson stepping up as a dominant closer I don’t know where the Mets would be.

David Robertson has a through resume of his accomplishments under the New York spotlight from winning the World Series in 2009 as the backhand man to Rivera to then fully taking over after Rivera went down with an injury in 2012. So it was no surprise for Robertson to take this role when the Mets told him in spring training he would be their primary closer. He has been the second best Mets player this yea, given the Mets sucky start to the season its no surprise he would be one of the best. He has only given up 1 run in 17 innings pitched, he has a 0.53 ERA and 10 strikeouts.

He is stepping up big time for the hole left by Edwin Diaz. The staple to a team’s success is a lockdown closer who knows how too shut the door down, and this is exactly the role Robertson took. He has experience with the next door neighbors and he is bringing his success to Queens, time to reconsider this team as still a lethal powerhouse without the flame thrower Edwin Diaz.
