Based on a bunch of factors, current play of the game, where the team is in the rankings, how strong they are in the second half. There is no telling what will happen in baseball, no one can predict what the divisions will look like at the end of the season. Here is my predictions that I think could best match the actual September rankings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
AL East
- Rays 102-60 – They are proving their strength and are the first team to 20 wins. They are 21-5 and hungry to prove to the division they are the strongest team in the AL East.
- Yankees 97-65 They will make a strong edge to first place but will fall short in the end, it will be a rigorous race in the AL East, but alas the beasts of the concrete jungle take 2nd place.
- Orioles 92-70 The Orioles are constantly proving their dominance to the league, they are more than capable of this record with how they are playing currently. Its a tough goal to reach but they have shown it last year and with their winning records they hold over their opponents.
- Blue Jays 89-73 They will battle hard, it will be a close race but they will fall short. Pitching will fail them at times, but altogether they won’t be as strong as before. They have all the pieces to be successful just something didn’t click this year.
- Red Sox 73-89 They are not contending, they have a bad rotation and an okay bullpen, offense is shaky. They are a few years away to channel their inner Boston fear.
AL Central
- Twins 93-69 The Pitching has bene beyond elite and they have proven they are the best in the central. They are led by three headed monster Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan and Sonny Gray to lead them to the division crowns. They will taste their first playoff win this year.
- Guardians 86-76 They fall short of first place but still prove to be a an elite team. They are young, can’t blame them but they’ve shown last year they can be dominant just things weren’t completely tight within the roster.
- White Sox 72-90 Weak weak weak, everything about this team speaks mediocre. Not good.
- Royals 70-92 Pitching on and off as well as offense being shaky, this team could move to 3rd place with the White Sox playing so bad, but it looks like 4th place is where they will land.
- Tigers 66-96 They are a crap shoot, in the final year of Miguel Cabrera’s long and successful career they end the season in 5th place. 66 wins is the same number as Miguel Cabrera’s total WAR he earned over his 20 year career.
AL West
- Astros 104-58 The 2022 World Series winners are proving they are fighting for a repeat champ. Strong offense paired with still elite pitching brings them safely into first place.
- Rangers 90-72 They are shocking everyone with the success of their revitalized pitching staff, mixed with their fun offense this team proves to be a dangerous threat down the stretch.
- Mariners 87-75 Tough months in the end they fought but lost out to the Rangers for 3rd. No Robbie Ray and on and off quality starts from their pitching staff doesn’t lead them well to a success in the west.
- Angels 74-88 Sucks to say the Angels end up in 4th place, but they do. They don’t do good before the deadline and end up trading Ohtani which plummets their record to being down to 4th place. Sucks for a team for such high expectations to fall back to 4th place. Even with having two of the best players in the game they still cannot manage to contend.
- Athletics 41-162 Nothing more to say, they are horrible. They are on pace to break the record for worst season in baseball ever! The Athletics have been going through a lot and this doesn’t make it any better.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
NL East
- Braves 96-66 I want to put the Mets here but it really looks like it’ll be the Braves ruling the NL East again. They have immaculate pitching and with their overpowering offense anything is possible for this Braves team who have their eyes set to go deep down the playoffs.
- Mets 90-72 I don’t believe they will have a season like last year, nonetheless I believe they will still a very productive year just not at the exact level of last year. Injuries will and inconsistent play down the stretch will have them dropped to second place. They have what it takes to be better. The last time they went 90-72 they were in the World Series, we don’t need to discuss what happened but it shd shine positivity that regular season records don’t indicate playoff success.
- Phillies 86-76 Pitching took a tumble for the worse, they fall down to 3rd place again. While replacing Zac Efin with Taijuan Walker did seem smart before it seems it took a turn for the worse with how both have been playing this year. The Phillies offense was still insane but the pitching and bullpen got the best of him.
- Marlins 73-89 Improvements for sure, even though they don’t have a winning record they’ve still made improvements. The addition of Luis Arraez and the resurgence of Jorge Soler and Jesus Luzardo breaking out. There have been a range of positives but also negatives. The pitching looked like a major attribute to the team but the pitching was weaker than expected.
- Nationals 71-91 Gore, Gray and Abrams and Ruiz to lead this young staff shows a promising future for this young Nationals team. It looks like a few more years in the ground until they start being competitive again.
NL Central
- Cubs 91-71 The NL central went from one of the easier divisions to predict to one of the hardest to predict. Anyone of these 4 teams have the capabilities to be fighting for first. That includes the Pirates who have been in first all this month. The cubs seem like they will have the best success over a 162 game season. The resurgence of Bellinger and Stroman gives this team much hope for the foreseeable future.
- Cardinals 89-73 They are struggling and the pirates have proven to be stronger on both sides. Cardinals desperately need pitching help, they are relying on an injury prone Flaherty to lead their team. Their bullpen has blown up any opportunity for success. I want to put them lower but I just can’t imagine it with the offense they have.
- Brewers 87-75 They are doing really well now but I think they will cool down on the offense and drop down to 3rd place. The NL central proves to be one for most competitive divisions in baseball, a year after being one of the worst they in for a close race between the teams. They have elite pitching
- Pirates 85-77 I want them to be first place but I have a feeling they will drop down. Still a really productive turn around for the team that had two 100 loss seasons in a row. They have a lot of young talent and a lot to prove. The Cardinals have a bad pitching rotation so they won’t be having success as the best team.
- Reds 65-97 Not ready for a few more years to be successful. The youngsters of Greene, Lodolo and Ashcraft gives them 3 strong young pitchers to lead them to contention for years to come.
NL West
- Dodgers 95-67 The Dodgers are dropping in so much young talent this year, prospect after prospect making serious noise. They aren’t showing complete dominance like years prior but they have the talent and facilities to produce another NL West winner.
- Padres 90-72 The Padres pitching has not been pretty, the offense has been subpar but I believe they will bounce back and get back into the playoffs. They have a strong core of hitting and pitching and will show themeselves later in the season
- Diamondbacks 87-75 Young, fast and hungry. The diamondbacks are winning and aren’t turning back anytime. They are a little bit away from being competitive but this is a big jump from years prior. They are I’m entering the new phase of diamondbacks baseball and it’s fast and young.
- Giants 80-82 Medicore team they are just built to be a slightly above average team. They have pretty good pitching but the offense could be stronger they just have a tough road against the NL West and aren’t built for a longevity successful playoff run.
- Rockies 68-94 Rockies are just a meh team, the Rockies have been notoriously bad pitching and their offense is just abysmal. The Coors Effect is real the pitching has been god awful, none of the regular starters have a lower ERA than 4.30. No bright spots for this team.
This is my predictions for the season But as we’ve seen it before we can’t always predict the exact outcomes of the game. No oome predicted the Pirates to be in first place for most of April or the Rangers to have a better record than the Astros. Baseball is about playing the best you can every day and the result could shock everyone. No matter the payroll your team has you can still have imminent success. Any team can beat any team nowadays, yes teams can have extreme power in one area than the other but any team is capable of winning against any team any time of the season. You cannot predict anything in this sport, just because your team won 111 the year before doesn’t mean they aren’t vulnerable to being beaten by the worst 100+ loss season team. Let’s see how this season ends and see if my predictions are somewhat correct.
